Q&A: Shopyte - Dovilė Šopytė

Shopyte founder: Dovilė Šopytė

1: What made you start Shopyte?

My mother has been involved in the fashion industry for over two decades. So everybody thinks it's because of that. But I wasn't seeing myself in this industry until some years ago when I started painting on the canvas which led me to create accessories. A couple of years later, my husband joined me and we established the womenswear brand, and never looked back!

2: Your collections are beautiful, how would you describe the women who wear your designs?

Thank you for the nice words! Elegant and sophisticated women. More importantly, conscious women who care what is happening around them and choose quality over quantity. Women who care about the story behind the clothing piece.

3: We’ve noticed that you care about sustainable fashion and state that you have ethical values. What does sustainable and ethical fashion mean to you?

In the beginning, since the moment I became the mother of my kids, my perspective on life has changed. My desire became to show them the best version of the surroundings where they live. Ethical fashion means doing less harm to the environment, and people. We leave less footprint after ourselves. The goal is to leave no footprint at all.

4: Your work with OneTreePlanted is inspiring. What made you decide to work with them?

Their dedication. Just look at what they do – they are amazing! Their goodwill inspires millions of people to contribute to the global reforestation in an easy way. They pool the donations for each project and send the funds to their reforestation partners. To plant a tree these days is very easy, try it!

5: What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever been given?

If you have any doubts about what you are doing, then quit it immediately.

6: Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Travelling inspires me the most. It is the best opportunity to see differences in people’s outfits from different cultures.

7: Do you have a particular design process you could share with us?

When I create new designs, I love being alone, just on my own. Moreover, I always carry a sketchbook with me, just in case of any new ideas.

8: You’ve been involved with fashion shows and feature on a large number of online fashion retailers. How do you describe “success”?

In my opinion, success means being appreciated.

9: What advice would you give to a young designer wanting to start their own brand?

The best advice from me would be to work hard and a little bit more until you succeed.

10: Lastly, where do you see Shopyte going in the future?

Our goal is to become a known brand globally and use this recognition for making people more conscious.
