Auór is an accessories label founded by Claire de Luca & Kristen Lindesay based in Sydney. They specialise in minimal, timeless designs which are made to last. Auór creates eyewear, bags, berets, scrunchies, barrettes, hats, hoop earrings and eyewear chains.
Claire and Kristen both worked in the textile industry for 3 years before they launched auór. Kristen has a background in product design and Claire in marketing and social media. Both designers have a background in Fine Art and are graduates of UNSW Art & Design in Sydney. They describe the establishment of auór as a ‘natural evolution from where we are at professionally and personally, combined with a genuine love and passion for fashion, and more importantly quality handmade products.’
Auór is a curation of what they love and are interested in — eyewear, accessories, photography and art.
The Design Process
Auór eyewear pieces and accessories are designed in Australia, with an emphasis on classic and simplistic styles which are made to last. The designers work directly with their production team in Italy to bring their ideas to fruition and only use carefully selected European materials for their products.
Each component is 100% handmade in Italy from the acetate used to make the frames, hinges and lenses. Italian cellulose acetate producers Mazzuchelli, a family-run company from northern Italy makes the eyewear in the traditional way. They even hand paint the logo and product information on the eyewear. They manufacture their sunglasses in a transparent supply chain, making short runs in keeping with the slow fashion movement. Any waste created in the production process is turned into earrings.
From start to finish it’s around six months from the evolution of the design, to prototyping and testing. Claire and Kristen like to make sure every aspect of our eyewear is perfect and worn by both of them before they send them to market.
The designers find inspiration in sorts of avenues: film, theatre, art, exhibitions, photographs, magazines, music and contemporary dance. Kristen still works in the design industry, and Claire in the performing arts at Carriageworks and The Opera House, which brings them daily inspiration. I
Their favourite brands within the fashion community are Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Anna Kras, Kathkeen Whittaker, Sophie Buhai, Batsheva, and Paloma Wool.
Auór products are manufactured in southern Italy in a small local factory where many young designers and producers from the region work. It’s extremely important for the brand to be transparent and committed to fair practice. A clean and ethical environment as well as fairness for both consumers and producers is at their core.
Auór isn’t about mass production. They are committed to making short runs of our products which are unique to the individual. Claire and Kristen want people to feel like they aren’t wearing what everyone else is.
